There are 102 established staff in Tongatapu in 2019.

At the moment there is only one staff at ‘Eua

In Ha’apai there are 3 established staff working there.

There are 5 established staff in Vava’u and 1 Magistrate Judge.

The Minister of Justice is a political appointment and the incumbent is the Hon. Sione Vuna Fa’otusia. As head of the Ministry, the Minister is responsible to Government at the Cabinet and the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

Minister of Justice, Hon. Sione Vuna Fa’otusia

Hon. Fa’otusia holds a Bachelor in Laws (LLB) degree from the University of New South Wales, a Master degree from London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.

He has extensive experience in the public and private sectors working for the Government of Tonga in various senior positions with the most senior being that of Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Justice from 2006 to 2008. He practiced law in the private sector for number of years before running successfully for Parliament in 2014.

After being elected into Parliament, he was appointed by His Majesty, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, as Minister of Justice in January 2015.

The Executive Management of the Ministry is headed by the Chief Executive Officer. Currently (2019) there are 112 established staff officers and 11 daily paid laborers. These does not include the number of Judges at both Supreme and Magistrate Court.
