The Minister of Justice is a political appointment and the incumbent is the Hon. Samiu Kuita Vaipulu. As head of the Ministry, the Minister is responsible to Government at the Cabinet and the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

Hon. Vaipulu holds a Diploma in Legal Studies. (Fiji)
He has extensive experience in the public and private sectors working for the Government of Tonga. He was Tonga Deputy Prime Minister from 2010 to 2014. Vaipulu was first elected to Parliament in 1987. Re-selected to Parliament in 2005 until now.
After being elected into Parliament, he was appointed by His Majesty, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, as Minister of Justice in January 2021.
The Executive Management of the Ministry is headed by the Chief Executive Officer. Currently (2019) there are 112 established staff officers and 11 daily paid laborers. These does not include the number of Judges at both Supreme and Magistrate Court.
